SYMPTOMS
When launching Modo 15 and selecting “Launch Licensing App” to activate your login-based license, the pop-up window “Waiting until licensing UI is closed” appears but the Licensing App does not open.
This issue happens with Windows machines using an Intel 10th Gen (Ice Lake), 11th Gen (Rocket Lake) or 12th Gen (Alder Lake) CPU.
RESOLUTION
This bug has been fixed from Modo 16.0v3 onwards. You can download and install Modo 16.0v3 at: Q100595: Download links for previous Modo versions
If you do not have access to 16.0v3 or above, please use the workaround steps below to resolve this issue.
WORKAROUND
You can set the following environment variable to correct the issue:
OPENSSL_ia32cap=~0x200000200000000
You can do this by accessing Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings > Environment Variables… It’s possible that you may have to restart the machine after adding the environment variable for it to take effect.
The variable disables bits 33 and 54, and from the OpenSSL documentation, shouldn’t cause any security issues as it's just disabling processor capabilities. The documentation for the variable can be found in the Further Reading section below.
