SYMPTOMS
When using Mari on a 4k / High DPI monitor, the UI scaling may not conform to the scaling set in the Windows display setting.
Mari’s UI may appear too small on a 4k / High DPI monitor to use satisfactorily:

CAUSE
Mari does not currently support native scaling for 4k / High DPI monitors.
The request for native 4k / High DPI scaling to be supported has been logged and is under review with Mari's product team.
RESOLUTION
To make the Mari UI more readable on 4k / High DPI monitors, you must change your Windows display setting and then set the Mari application to conform to the OS display setting.
NOTE: Since Mari will be scaled by Windows and not by itself, the Mari UI may appear to have minor blurring.
METHOD
First, you must set your Windows display settings correctly:
-
Open your Windows Settings menu and click the System icon
-
In the Display tab, select your 4k monitor.
-
Under the Scale and layout heading, set the magnification size to 200%. This will scale the Windows UI to better fit a 4K / High DPI monitor.

Now you must set the Mari application to conform to the Windows display scaling setting:
- Right-click the Mari shortcut and select Properties.
- Switch to the Compatibility tab, then click the Change high DPI settings button.
- Tick the box under High DPI scaling override, then change the option from Application to System. This will force Mari to use the Windows 10 display scaling setting.
- Confirm the changes by selecting OK. Relaunch the Mari application and the UI should now be scaled on the 4k / High DPI monitor.

Once this is done, the Mari UI will display on your 4k monitor as shown below:

Please note that there can be issues when using two monitors with different display scaling values.
ALTERNATIVE METHOD
An alternative partial solution is to to increase Mari's font size under Edit > Preferences > Misc > Appearance > Use Custom Font Size. This won't cause the minor UI blurring like the above resolution does, but it won't scale other parts of the UI, such as icons and buttons.
