SUMMARY
The replace flag is used in licenses for Foundry applications when you renew your maintenance to tell a license server to ignore any older licenses for the same feature/application. It will also be included if the licenses for a machine needs to be regenerated for any reason.
The Foundry Licensing Utility (FLU) 8.0 and above can display a summary of licenses on a machine and will indicate which licenses have been replaced.
MORE INFORMATION
The replace flag in RLM licenses works in conjunction with the issued date in the license string to tell the license code to ignore any earlier licenses for the same feature. A Nuke license can replace older Nuke licenses but it cannot replace a Mari license.
As an example, a customer buys three floating Nuke licenses in May 2018 they would get a license with an issued date in May 2018
HOST <server_name> 001122334455 4101
ISV foundry
LICENSE foundry nuke_i 2019.0501 permanent 3 share=h min_timeout=30
max_roam=-1 start=1-may-2018 issued=1-may-2018 options=303
_ck=0cd82f7e63 sig="60P04519XK59T6RJ9QM5C438KV400QHPQN8C7H022GX4404
EGXB1UX84CSF3X5G80B0ES1THBV"
A year later they renew their maintenance and receive a new license which contains the replace flag and an issued date from May 2019
HOST <server_name> 001122334455 4101
ISV foundry
LICENSE foundry nuke_i 2020.0501 permanent 3 share=h min_timeout=30
max_roam=-1 start=1-may-2019 issued=1-may-2019 replace options=303
_ck=04d8ac452d sig="60PG4580KY1N66760FRKKDYGJKUX6USAD9DYXA6H08A5JY9
1WG52BX5G7KFV0GSUQ185VQBJMUYG"
When the server starts up with the new license and sees the replace flag, it will then ignore any other licenses for the same feature, nuke_i. The RLM server log will mention the replaced licenses
06/20 11:29 (foundry) nuke_i v2020.0501 (sig: 60pg4580ky1n66760frk...) replacing:
06/20 11:29 (foundry) nuke_i v2019.0501 (sig: 60p04519xk59t6rj9qm5...)
VIEWING REPLACED LICENSE IN THE FOUNDRY LICENSING UTILITY
You can view the license(s) installed on a machine using the Foundry Licensing Utility (FLU) 8.0.0 and above. Licenses are divided into Valid, Replaced, Expired and Invalid categories.
You can click on a license to see more information.
NEXT STEPS
If you don't have as many licenses floating from your server as you believe you should have and/or see that licenses are replaced that shouldn't be then please raise a support ticket so that we can investigate this for you. Please include the following on your ticket:
- Screenshots of error/warning messages from the application and/or FLU
- A diagnostic file from the FLU on your machine so that we can check the licensing setup of the machine. Please see Q100105: How to generate a License Diagnostic Log via the FLU for troubleshooting license issues
