Q100486: RLM Server fails to start on macOS

Follow

SYMPTOMS

On macOS, the RLM Server fails to start, giving you the following error message:

Errors during the RLM server callback:
The Foundry server failed to execute the given command

CAUSE

This most common cause of this error message is if the server is unable to resolve or contact its own hostname. This can be a problem for macOS machines with hostnames ending in .local.

The machine must be able to recognize its own hostname on the network in order for the RLM Server to start correctly.

RESOLUTION

This issue can usually be resolved by turning on any of the "sharing services" within the System Preferences on the server machine.  Navigate to:

System Preferences > Sharing > check the box for "File Sharing"Screenshot_2022-09-15_at_09.59.08.png

The machine should then be able to resolve its own hostname and you can then start the RLM server by doing the following:

  1. Launch the Foundry License Utility (FLU)
  2. Go to License Server > Control

  3. Click Start and enter your password if prompted

The server should then start up and your floating licenses should work.
