Q100435: How to Install a Student Education Collective



The Student License program is an opportunity for students to experiment with Foundry products with the Education Collective (Nuke, NukeX, Nuke Studio, Mari, Modo, and Katana bundle). The program allows eligible students to obtain a license from their school (home-use code), or at our discounted rate.More information about the program and how to apply can be found on the Foundry Education Program for Students & Graduates page of our website.



If you’ve successfully applied for the Student License program or received a home-use code from your school, you’ll receive an Activation Key for the Education Collective via email that will look like the following:

The Activation Key will provide you with a nodelocked/single machine license for the whole Education Collective.  Please follow the instructions below to get up and running:

NOTE: Please follow these steps exactly. Do not attempt to activate the license via the product ui as you will run into the following bug and your license will not install and you will not have access to the file: 523514 Collective and Nuke X/Studio activation keys are being activated but not installed by the new license ui in Modo and Nuke

  1. Find your System ID

    You can download FLU from https://www.foundry.com/licensing/tools and install it on your machine by following the steps in Learn Licensing - Installing the FLU

    To find the System ID of a machine, launch the FLU and click on System ID on the left hand side


    Click on Copy to Clipboard to copy the System ID so you can enter it in our website or an email to Sales.

  2. Use your Activation Key with our website to generate your license
    Go to https://www.foundry.com/licensing/activate-product and enter your activation key followed by your System ID and click on the Activate button.  Your license will then be displayed on screen and also emailed to you.
  3. Install the License
    Copy and paste the full License Key text from the email you receive into the “License Install” window via these steps:
    - Open the FLU
    - Click Licenses > Install
    - Click Into Text Field and copy and paste the full license key text into the window
    - Click Install



    The FLU will install the license for you and will now be licensed for the programs in the Education Collective.
  4. Install the programs
    You can download the latest versions of the programs in the Education Collective individually from the product download pages on our website.


If you have a home-use code from your school, please review the FAQ’s below:

  • Can I use this on more than one computer?
    No, we have only allocated one license per student and it can only be activated on one computer. To install on a second computer, please confirm with your school if there are any excess licenses.

  • Can I share this key with others outside of my program?
    No, this key is specific to your school and may only be distributed by a school official. If found to be distributed outside of current students, the key will be disabled and users will be at fault for license infringement.

  • Can these be installed on our lab computers?
    No, these are not a replacement for classroom licenses. They are intended for students to have home access and can only be installed on a computer solely used by an individual student. Installing them on a classroom computer is a violation of the EULA.

  • Can I use this on commercial work?
    No. Our free student licenses are for learning purposes only and can not be used on any kind of paid work. You may purchase a graduate or discounted commercial license which can be used on commercial work.

  • Can I purchase a graduate or commercial license once I finish school?
    Yes. More details on our annual graduate license and discounted commercial licenses can be found at www.foundry.com/education

  • What’s included with my student license?
    You have full access to our Education Collective which includes Nuke, NukeX, Nuke Studio, Modo, Mari and Katana.

  • I am having difficulty installing or using my license. How can I resolve this?

  • Can I transfer my license to a different computer?
    The Education Collective for students can be used on one machine only. If you wish to transfer to another machine, please email us at educationsupport@foundry.com requesting a license transfer form. A license can be transferred a max of 2 times a year.
