Q100138: Uninstalling Mari and all of its associated content

Follow

SUMMARY

This article explains what you need to do in order to fully uninstall Mari, any associated environment variables, and folders and files generated by Mari. This means that once Mari is reinstalled, it will be a truly fresh install, which can be useful when trying to troubleshoot persisting issues in Mari.

NOTE: If you are performing a reinstall as an attempt to resolve a persisting issue, a more accessible troubleshooting step worth trying beforehand is to just rename your TheFoundry folder and relaunch Mari. To do this, follow the steps in the Removing configuration files section of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

To uninstall Mari from your machine, please select your Operating System and follow the steps within:

WINDOWS

To uninstall Mari on Windows, there are a few things you need to do:

Uninstalling the application:

  1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Mari7.0v2 and run the Uninstall.exe file.
  2. The Mari Uninstall dialog displays. Click Yes to uninstall the application files.

Removing configuration files:

Delete, rename, or move your TheFoundry folder. The TheFoundry folder contains user configuration files such as preferences, workspace layouts, shortcuts, and so on. It is generated when Mari is launched for the first time and updates with every session.

Its default location is typically: C:\Users\<USERNAME>\.mari\TheFoundry

If you can't find it:

  • The .mari folder is a hidden folder, so ensure that you've turned on Show Hidden Items for your user folder.
  • The .mari folder's location is typically specified by the USERPROFILE environment variable, or alternatively by the HOME environment variable, if it has been defined. As such, if you can't find your .mari folder, check whether the USERPROFILE or HOME environment variables have been set, and which folder they are pointing to. To do this, enter %USERPROFILE% or %HOME% into the address bar in the Windows File Explorer. If the environment variable is set, the folder it’s pointing at is opened. If it’s not set, you get an error.

Removing diagnostic logs:

Delete, rename, or move your Logs folder. The parent Mari folder can also be removed, as long as nothing else inside it is required.

Its default location is typically: C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Documents\Mari\Logs

This Logs folder contains the MariLog.txt and, occasionally, encrypted OpenGL shader crash reports. The MariLog.txt file reports your last Mari session and gets overwritten every time you open Mari. It can help troubleshoot issues by describing how a user's actions are being processed by Mari.

NOTE: To learn more about Mari's Log and Config files, please refer to the following article:

This folder resides in the location you picked when Mari was launched for the first time, and its location can always be checked or changed in Mari by selecting Edit > Preferences > Data > Project > Project Location

Its default location is typically: C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Documents\Mari\Projects

Removing Mari-related environment variables:

To access your system's environment variables and delete any Mari-related ones you've set up:

  1. Select your Windows Search Bar.
  2. Type "environment".
  3. Select Edit the System Environment Variables.
  4. Select the Environment Variables… button.
  5. The Environment Variables dialog opens.
