SUMMARY
This article explains how you can add the original source file to a Nuke Studio/Hiero export preset, while also exporting other sequences by adding the Read nodes into the exported Nuke script.
MORE INFORMATION
When creating export presets in Nuke Studio or Hiero, if you don’t select a Read node in the Nuke Project File, then the source shot will be added as a Read node in the exported Nuke script. However, if you select a Read node, for example from a Transcode, then the source shot will not be available in the Nuke script.
In order to have the original source media in the Nuke script along with other exports, such as Transcodes, please follow the steps below:
1. In your project, select the shot(s) to be exported, then File > Export… to open the Export dialog
2. In the export structure, add a directory and call it {filepath}
3. In that directory, create a new file entry called {filename} and set its content type to External Render:
4. Select the Nuke Project File, and set the Read nodes to your file entries and the newly created {filepath}/{filename} item:
5. Export using this preset, and the exported Nuke script will contain Read nodes for both the Transcoded media and the original source file.
NOTE: Depending on the order of the file entries in the export structure, the order of the Read nodes in the Nuke script will change. The file entry at the bottom of the export structure will be the node which is connected to the rest of the Nuke script. In the above example, it is the original source file:
