MORE INFORMATION
Expectations:
Please click the headers below for more information about what files will be created and what actions will occur after a successful publish.
Files that are always generated:
Publishes to Avid:
- *_all.aaf
- *_new.aaf
Publishes to Premiere:
- *_all.xml
- *_new.xml
To learn about the difference between the "all" and "new" publish files, please watch this short tutorial: Updating Your Edit with New and All Publishes from Story
Files that are dependent on the preference chosen at publish time:
- A Contact Sheet
- This option is only available if one or more Contact Sheet Templates have been assigned to the Show via the Management Console.
- A Dialogue text file
- This option is only available for publishes to Avid, and is not currently available for Premiere
Files that are dependent on what media has already been published:
- If the publish has no new media, you might not get any assets for panels that hadn't been previously published.
- This is for publishes to Premiere only, as publishes to Avid utilize AAF with embedded media which does not require assets to be exported separately.
Automatically triggered actions:
- The directory where published files are saved is opened locally
A publish email notification is sent that contains:
-
-
Clickable redirects to the relevant show, sequence, or revision in Flix
-
Sequence revision comments
-
Information on:
-
New panels
-
New panel revisions
-
Deleted panels
-
Panel duration changes
-
-
Publish to Editorial only:
-
-
A link to published files and Contact Sheet
-
Panel comments added or resolved since the previous publish to Editorial
-
Publish from Editorial only:
-
- Camera move changes
-
- Note: The email notification only works if the Flix Server is set up to use an SMTP server - please check with internal IT if unsure if this has been set up for your studio
- The email is sent to everyone that is assigned to the Show, and whose user has an email address present
- It is not currently possible to assign custom mailing groups - if you would like to register your interest in this functionality, please open a support ticket
Tips:
- Before publishing a revision of your sequence to Editorial from Flix, you can check which panels will be included in the publish, and which are expected to already be present in Editorial from previous publishes. This is done via the Panel Filter at the top right corner of the Panel Browser:
- Flix will only ever publish media for panels once, so each time a publish is made in Flix, make sure the published files are imported in the Editorial software. This ensures that "offline" clips in subsequent publishes can be relinked to the media that was previously published.
- Premiere usually does the relinking automatically as long as the media hasn't been moved to a different directory, but the relinking will need to be done manually in Avid. The short video Relinking Clips in Avid Media Composer explains how.

- If your publish contained ref panels, and it's the first time they are being sent back to Editorial, they will be present in the "all" publish file as online media, since these cannot be relinked. However, since this is not new media for Editorial, they are not included in the "new" file. If the same ref panel is again present in a subsequent publish, it will be present in the "all" publish file as offline just like any other panel.
