Q100400: Installing Katana 3.x

 

SUMMARY

This article summarises the basic steps you need to take in order to install and launch Katana 3.x:

  1. Download and run the Katana installer
  2. (Optional) Install the 3Delight renderer
  3. (Optional) Create a launcher script to add other required resources to Katana
  4. Start & License Katana

  2. (Optional) Install the 3Delight renderer

    Katana 3.x ships with a full version of the 3Delight renderer, which will be set up as part of the installation process if you choose to install it. 

    Windows

    After accepting the EULA, you will be prompted by the Katana installer to select components to install. If you would like to install 3Delight, select full installation, otherwise untick the checkbox for the 3Delight Katana Plugin.

    If you have chosen to install 3Delight, the 3Delight installer will be run automatically at the end of the Katana installation process. First, you will be prompted to accept the 3Delight EULA.

    The next step involves setting environment variables so the 3Delight plug-in can be detected by Katana. In order to set up 3Delight to automatically "just work" with Katana, leave this at the default setting:

    Linux

    After entering the path where you would like Katana to be installed, you will be prompted to choose whether you would like to install the 3Delight renderer. 

    Typing y for yes and pressing enter will prompt you to enter a file path for where 3Delight should be installed.

    Press enter and the installer will run. Once it is done, you will get a confirmation message similar to the following:

  3. (Optional) Create a launcher script to add other required resources to Katana

    If you wish to add further resources to Katana, for example custom plug-ins and tools or one of the renderers not shipped with Katana, please create a batch script as outlined in these articles:

  4. Start & License Katana

    Please see the following articles for instructions on how to license Katana:

  5. All done!

    Once the license is installed you are ready to launch and start using Katana!
