Q100735: Storyboard Pro 25.1.0 is incompatible with Flix 8.0

SYMPTOMS

Attempting to use Storyboard Pro 25.1.0 (abbreviated to SBP 25.1 in this article) with Flix 8 can result in a few different problems that inhibit Flix’s intended functionality. Due to the issues listed below, Storyboard Pro 25.1 is incompatible with Flix 8:

A) When SBP 25.1 is set as the Storyboard Pro executable in Flix, importing a .sbpz or .sboard file will fail to generate the PSD assets and the Finalizing Revision step will never complete:

B) On macOS, Flix is not able to install its SBP extension for SBP 25.1

C) On Windows, the SBP extension can be installed successfully, but panels can only be opened in SBP and cannot be sent to Flix.

Attempting to send panels from SBP 25.1 to Flix will result in the following error:

If the Include camera moves option is disabled in the SBP extension, the error message will instead look like the following:

CAUSE

These behaviors are a result of changes made in SBP 25.1. For more details about each problem, please see the sections below:

A) Since SBP API functions have changed between SBP 25.0.1 and 25.1, the necessary assets are not able to be exported from SBP when Flix attempts to import the .sbpz or .sboard file. This issue has been logged with Toon Boom and can be referred to by this ID: #185611

B) Because the .app file for SBP 25.1 now includes a decimal point, Flix is not able to correctly identify it. This problem has been logged as the following bug report: ID 614368 - Flix 8 fails to install its extension on Storyboard Pro 25.1

C) Similar to scenario A, sending panels from SBP into Flix will fail because SBP attempts to create PSDs inside a XML file instead of in a directory as a result of API changes. This behavior has also been raised with Toon Boom and can be referred to via ID #185611 as well.

RESOLUTION

To avoid these issues, please use a compatible version of Storyboard Pro, such as 24 or 25.0.1.

Note: Please do not use 25.0.0, as this version of SBP has a different known issue that will prevent Flix from functioning as expected. For more information on the subject, please refer to Q100731: Panels with camera moves import incorrectly using SBP 25.0.0.
