Q100125: How to fully uninstall Modo and its associated directories

After two decades of 3D workflow innovation, in November 2024, we made the difficult decision to discontinue Modo. Unfortunately, since Modo has been discontinued, we are unable to provide any further product releases, licenses or support. We therefore recommend that users transition to alternative 3D workflows. We want to express our deepest gratitude for your loyalty and support over the years. The original announcement can be found here

SUMMARY

This is a guide on how to uninstall individual versions of Modo from your system, as well as remove all associated directories, for a complete uninstall.

MORE INFORMATION

Modo stores various preferences, settings, and plug-ins in shared directories on your machine so they can be accessed by multiple versions of Modo.

Completely removing Modo from a machine is therefore a two-step process:

  • Firstly, uninstall the Modo version(s).
  • Secondly, remove the associated directories.

If you just want to uninstall a single version of Modo then you should leave the directories in place.

How to remove individual versions:

Windows 7

  • Run the Modo uninstaller by navigating to: Start > All Programs/Apps > Luxology > modo > 12.2v2 > Uninstall Modo
  • Alternatively, you can use Windows program uninstaller by navigating to: Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program

Windows 10

  • Select Start, and then go to and expand the Foundry folder and run the Modo uninstaller.

  • Alternatively, you can use the Windows program uninstaller from Settings > Apps and then locate the version of Modo you would like to uninstall in the Apps & features list.

Windows 11

  • Use the Windows program uninstaller from Settings > Apps > Installed Apps. Locate the version of Modo you would like to uninstall from the program list.

macOS

  • Drag the Modo application to the trash. The default location for this is:

     /Applications/modo.app

Linux

  • Delete the directory where you installed Modo to. For example:

     /usr/local/modo

How to remove the associated directories:

If you want to completely remove Modo from a computer, you will need to delete the following directories and files where it stores settings and preferences.

Windows

  • C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Luxology
  • C:\Users\<USER>\Documents\Luxology

macOS:

  • /Users/<USER>/Library/Application Support/Luxology
  • /Library/Application Support/Luxology

Additionally, you can delete any files starting with com.luxology from the following location

  • /Users/<USER>/Library/Preferences/

Linux:

  • /home/<USER>/.luxology
  • /usr/share/Luxology

NOTE: AppData, Library and .luxology are hidden by default.
