Q100114: OSX - App icon bounces in dock but the program doesn't launch

When trying to launch a program from the dock on OSX, 10.14 or below,  the app icon bounces but the program fails to launch.

This can be due to security settings on OSX preventing programs downloaded from the internet from running.  This setting can change after OSX is updated.

Changing your security settings on your Mac to let it run programs downloaded from the internet usually resolves this problem.
  1. Open 'System Preferences' and navigate to 'Security & Privacy'.
  2. Click the 'Lock' to make changes (you may need to enter your password)
  3. On the 'General' tab, change the 'Allow Apps Downloaded From' setting to: 'Anywhere'.
  4. Click the 'Lock' to save changes.
Unfortunately this resolution doesn't work for OSX 10.15 or above, as the security and preferences options have changed between OS versions.

If this doesn't resolve the problem and the program still will not launch then please see the product's knowledge base on the Product Support page of our Support Portal for further help.
