Q100004: What are the Server Tools installed by the Foundry Licensing Utility (FLU)

Follow

SUMMARY

RLM Floating/server licenses enable any networked machine to run an application.  Floating licenses require server software to be running on the server machine to manage license usage across the network.

The Foundry Licensing Utility (FLU) 8 can install the Server Tools required to make our floating licenses work across your network.

IF YOU ARE RUNNING ON EITHER MAC OR LINUX, WE WOULD ADVISE DOWNLOADING AND INSTALLING THE FLU VERSION 8.1.3 FOUND IN THIS ARTICLE: Q100630: UNABLE TO INSTALL LICENSE SERVER VIA FLU 8.1.6 ON MAC/LINUX

MORE INFORMATION

In order for floating/server licenses for Foundry applications to work, an RLM server needs to be running on the server machine.  The Server Tools that the Foundry Licensing Utility (FLU) 8 can install (and uninstall) contain all of the RLM server software you need to make our floating/server licenses work.  Once the server tools are installed you can then control the RLM server directly from the FLU.

This means that everything required to get up and running with a floating license is now available in a single download.  Older versions of Foundry licensing software required a separate download (called Foundry Licensing Tools) to install a license server.

When setting up a license sever we recommend that you install the server/floating license first and then install the Server Tools.  Instructions on how to install Server Tools are available in our online help at Learn Licensing > Server Admin > Installing the Server Tools

You only need to install Server Tools on a license server machine.  These aren't required if you have a node-locked license or if you are point a machine to a server on your network.
