Q100002: What is the System ID and how do I find it?

A machine's system ID is a unique code required to license products from The Foundry. Please note that refunds cannot be given for licenses issued for an incorrect system ID, so please download a tool (below) to report the correct system ID.

System ID for trial or node-locked licenses

For trial and node-locked licenses, you need to find the System ID of the machine that will use the software.

System ID for floating and render licenses

Floating licenses are managed by a machine on your network acting as a license server. When buying a floating license, you need to enter the System ID of this license server.

Finding the System ID

You can find the SystemID using the Foundry License Utility (FLU).  The steps to find the SystemID depend upon your operating system:

  • MacOs and Windows:
Run the FLU. The System ID will be displayed at the bottom of the window.

  • Linux:
Run the following command in the directory where you downloaded the FLU to print out the System ID:
./FoundryLicenseUtility –i

If the System ID is of the form Raaaaaaaaaaaa:Xbbbbbbbbbbbb, please see Q100008: What do I do if the FLU returns two system IDs?
