Q100689: Katana downloads blocked in web browsers

Follow

SUMMARY

This article provides an update on the ongoing technical difficulties with Katana downloads mentioned on our main Katana product download page here: https://www.foundry.com/products/katana/download

MORE INFORMATION

Foundry is aware that Google Safe Browsing is currently flagging our Katana installers as containing malware, blocking downloads in the Chrome and Firefox browsers.

A thorough investigation was made into this finding, with our installer being placed under the scrutiny of multiple alternative signature based and also next-gen antivirus tools - all of which found no trace of any malware.

As such we are confident this finding is a false positive.

Our Engineering teams have compared the signatures and detection logic utilised by VirusTotal, Windows Defender, CrowdStrike, Hitman Pro and MalwareBytes against the Katana binary originally flagged by Google, and these scans have passed successfully.

We would invite any customers who have observed these Google Safe Browsing warnings to also scan using other tools - such as Windows Defender, MalwareBytes or Hitman Pro - to self-certify that this finding as a false positive.

RESOLUTION

We started the appeal process with Google immediately. However this can take up to 30 days for Google to process during which regular access to Katana downloads will be interrupted.
