Q100347: Advanced Viewport issues with Modo on OS X 10.11 and earlier and AMD FirePro D-Series GPUs

Machines running OS X 10.11 or below with an AMD FirePro D-Series GPU may encounter problems when enabling the Advanced Viewport.
  • Modo 11.2v1 will cause a system crash
  • Modo 11.1 and below will not display the Advanced Viewport correctly; the Viewport will display a solid black or artefacts will obscure the pill buttons in the top left of the Viewport.

Updating your machine to a newer version of OS X should resolve the problem.
We have reliably reproduced the problems with Modo 11.1 and 11.2 on OS X 10.11 with a AMD FirePro D-Series GPU. Updating the affected machines to OS X 10.12 or 10.13 resolved the problem and the Advanced Viewport then displayed correctly in Modo 11.2 and 11.1.

If you are using an OS X version of 10.12 or 10.13 with a AMD FirePro D-Series GPU and are still experiencing problems with the Advanced Viewport, please open a Support ticket explaining the problem, your system's OS X version and GPU and the troubleshooting steps you have already taken.
