Q100309: Graphics Driver Requirements for Shader Compilation modes in Mari 3.3


When launching Mari 3.3v1 for the first time, you may see a warning that your Graphics Card driver is older than the recommended minimum version and this may impact the performance of Mari.  The recommended minimum driver version is required to use Mari's new Parallel Shader Compilation functionality.

This article explains more about the graphics driver requirements and what to do if you cannot update your drivers.

In order to use the Shader Compilation 'Automatic' mode, you will need to meet the minimum requirements set for the operating system you are currently using. These are:

Windows:     368.39

Linux:           367.27

If you do not meet these requirements then Mari will display a warning message like the images below. NOTE: The minimum driver version is different for Windows and Linux.

If you would like to make use of Mari's new Shader Compilation modes, you should upgrade your NVidia drivers in order to meet the recommended minimum requirements and relaunch Mari. If you have successfully updated your drivers, you should not see the dialog window appear.

If you do not wish to update your drivers and would like to continue using Mari, we suggest navigating to your Mari preferences and changing your Shader Compilation mode to Legacy which will allow you to run Mari 3.3v1 in the same compilation method as in previous versions of Mari. With these older driver versions, you will still be able to make use of 3.3v1's other new features such as the Marquee Lift action and you will still experience optimisations in GPU texture management and an improvement in colorspace export speeds.
